About Greg
  • Getting up at 3:30 in the morning is a small price to pay for doing what I've wanted to my whole life.  Sure there's the addiction to coffee, the chronic sleep deprivation, and the inability to stay awake at the dinner table...but those are all minor annoyances when compared to the fun I have on a daily basis.

    When I was growing up in Lynn I wanted to be one of three things:
    - a pitcher for the Red Sox;
    - lead guitarist for a major late '70's rock band (except Rush, I never liked them);
    -or, a wise-cracking guy on a morning radio show.

    As with most childhood career dreams, things didn't really work out with the Sox or the rock star thing.  However, after getting a Master's Degree and working as a clinical social worker for 15-years, it was time for a change and my lovely (and extremely tolerant) wife Jean said I ought to go for the radio thing.  So off to Broadcasting School, an internship, and a job that paid little but got me in the door.  Now three years and a couple of  newsguy jobs later...here I am.

    Jean and I have been married for 25 years and have two great kids Sam (19) and Jake (17).  When they're not watching me sleep in my chair in front of the TV, they play baseball and hockey all while making great grades in school (must be due to their mom).

    We're also the proud people of Frank the Wonderdog.

    He's a mutt we picked up at the Sterling Shelter
    http://www.sterlingshelter.org/. He's a great dog who happens to think he's human.  I don't really mind though except when he smokes in the house, or drinks my beer without replacing it.

    And now we have Otis, the Boston Terrier who thinks he's a bull mastiff.

    He's a great little guy who spends most of his time antagonizing Frank, eating, and sleeping.  Sometimes he forgets himself and he allows Frank to share his sunbeam.

    Growing up in the eighties in my hometown of Sturbridge my family was blessed with a state of the art stereo system. It had a turntable, eight-track player and even a microphone.  In the summer, we hosted bbq’s for our family and friends. Dad playing DJ spun the hits from seventies and eighties artists like Billy Joel, Janet Jackson, Styx, Fleetwood Mac, Madonna and more.  Little did I know that the enjoyment that I experienced would inspire my passion to be a DJ on the radio.

     At the young age of 12, I actually felt like I was on the air, when I took my dad’s tape recorder and made mock commercials. I would read the advertisements from my mom’s magazines. Make-up, shampoo and automobile ads, I covered every category.

     Flash forward to 1991 when a high school assignment led me to WSRS. Inspired by writing a paper on “living out our dreams,” I actually applied for a job at my favorite radio station WSRS. When I would listen at home and in the car with my family I would dream of
    hearing my voice coming out of the speakers.  Needless to say, I was turned down because I was 15 and too young. That moment when I left the station and hopped back in the car holding on to my aspiration, I told my dad, “someday, I’ll be back.” I never gave up my dream to be on WSRS. Over the last 21 years I’ve had wonderful experiences on the air in Boston,
    Providence, Springfield and most recently Connecticut. Now, words can’t express
    how happy I am to work with Greg and to be back in Worcester on the station that started it all for me, 96.1 WSRS!
